Who We Serve

  • Happy 6 Year Old Child Participating in Play Therapy

    Kids

    Ages 4 and Up.

Anger that comes out of nowhere. Worry at bedtime. A hard change at home. Play therapy gives kids a way to work through it in a fun way that makes sense to them.

  • Two Teenage Girls Smiling while sitting next to each other

    Teens

    Ages 10-17

The mood swings, the withdrawal, the closed bedroom door. We help teenagers get honest with someone who is not their parent, and give them real skills instead of coping with attitude.

  • Smiling Adult Female

    Adults

Stress that will not let up, thoughts that keep you awake, grief you have not really dealt with. Our Justin team works with adults on anxiety, life transitions, depression, and more.

Our Office and Location

Our Justin office serves families from Justin, Northlake, Haslet, Roanoke, Argyle, Ponder, New Fairview, and Rhome. Adults anywhere in Texas can meet with us virtually.

Justin is a small town in the middle of a growth spurt, and that shapes who walks through our door. The population has grown more than 70 percent since the 2020 census, the median age here is 35.2 against a national figure of 39.2, and Treeline alone will add 2,700 homes. Applied to a town this size, it means most of Justin is either brand new here or watching the place change around them: a first house on a street that is still being built, a kid who is the new one at school again, a longer drive to everything that used to be close. At Grateful Heart Counseling, we work with kids, teens, and adults across Justin and northwest Denton County who are carrying anxiety, grief, or the strain of a move that looked simpler on paper.

About Us and What Others are Saying

Ashley Smith - Owner, LPC, RPT

Hi, I’m Ashley! I am the owner of Grateful Heart Counseling and we are here to help your family navigate through life's many challenges.

Whether it's anxiety creeping in, low self-esteem holding you back, or difficult changes happening around you, we can help you gain the skills and self confidence to overcome these obstacles.

Our counselors are trained in multiple evidence-based therapies such as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Accelerated Resolution Therapy (ART), Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT), Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) and for younger kids- the transformative power of Play Therapy. Together, we can start your journey towards healing and growth.

Ashley has helped equip me with tools for parenting my son who went through a major change in his life. She listened, took time to give me materials, and helped me feel supported as the parent. I would recommend her for parents who have a child needing emotional support!
— H.G.
Grateful heart counseling is an excellent resource in the Justin area! Ashley and her team have taken a special interest in the play therapy population and know their stuff! This team does a great job equipping their clients with the tools that they need to succeed!
— K.D.
Ms. Smith has supported both myself and my kiddos through so many situations. She is enthusiastic to share ideas for solving everyday challenges as well as an expert in grief counseling, self-help, and executive functioning skills. I would give her 100/100 if that amount of stars was an option!
— L.H.
