Getting Started in Three Easy Steps
1 - Reach out
Fill out the contact form. Either of you can be the one to reach out, and you do not have to have your partner’s agreement lined up before you do.
2 - Get matched
Our office administrator will pair you with the counselor whose specialty and availability fit what you need. If you already know who you want to see, let us know.
3 - Get Started!
Your first session is a conversation, not an interrogation. You will talk about what brought you in and the goals you want to achieve.
What is Couples Counseling?
Couples counseling is talk therapy where the relationship is the client.
That distinction matters more than it sounds. Your counselor is not there to decide who is right, hand down a verdict, or quietly take a side. They are there to watch what happens between the two of you, name the pattern out loud, and help you change it. Most couples already know what they fight about. What they cannot see from the inside is the loop: what sets it off, what each of you does next, and why it keeps ending in the same argument.
So the work usually moves in three stages. First you see the cycle. Then you understand what is underneath it, which is almost always something more vulnerable than the argument on the surface. Then you practice doing it differently, in session and at home, until the new version starts to feel less like a technique and more like how you talk to each other.
Our therapists are trained in several effective couples counseling modalities including The Gottman Method and Emotionally Focused Therapy. They are able to work with couples in crisis, on the verge of divorce, those just wanting to improve their communication, couples who are devoted to each other but feel emotionally disconnected, and the lovebirds who are so excited to be getting married but want to address possible problem areas before they arise.
Before you marry, premarital counseling is the version of this work you do while everything is still theoretical. You talk through money, in-laws, faith, kids, careers, and how each of you handles conflict, before those conversations are attached to a real bank account and a real toddler.
Out therapists can also help a couple after infidelity or broken trust. Repair after an affair or financial dishonesty is slower and more structured than general couples work. Early sessions are about stabilizing, not resolving, and rebuilding comes from consistency over time rather than from one good conversation.
Couples Come to Us When
The same argument keeps coming back, and it is never really about the dishes
One or both of you has stopped bringing things up because it is not worth it
The house is peaceful and you feel more like roommates than partners
Trust was broken, and you both want to repair it but do not know where to start
Something big shifted: a baby, a move, a job loss, a diagnosis, a parent who needs care, the last kid leaving
Sex and physical closeness have become a source of tension rather than connection
You are getting married and would rather have the hard conversations now than in year three
One of you is not sure you want to stay, and you need help figuring that out honestly
If any of this sounds familiar, couples counseling may be a helpful path forward.

Frequently Asked Questions
If you are in crisis or thinking about harming yourself, call or text 988 to reach the Suicide and Crisis Lifeline, 24 hours a day.
-
50 to 60 minutes, usually weekly to start.
-
There is no fixed number. Some people come for a few months around a specific problem, others stay longer. Your counselor will help you figure out what makes sense for your goals, and you are free to stop anytime and come back later.
-
We try to get your first appointment scheduled within a week from when you call. Some of our Therapists offer appointments in the early morning, evenings, or on Saturdays to try to accommodate your schedule.
-
Mostly listening. Your counselor will ask about your history, what is going on now, and what you want to be different. You are not expected to have it all organized in your head beforehand.
-
-
Yes, with the legal limits every licensed counselor in Texas operates under, which your counselor will explain clearly in the first session.
-
No. We work with married, engaged, dating, and long-term partners, and with couples who are separated and trying to decide what comes next.
-
No. Your counselor’s job is the relationship, which means neither of you gets a referee ruling in your favor. If one of you consistently feels ganged up on, say so in session. That is useful information, not a complaint.
-
No, and couples who come in early usually have an easier time of it. Research on couples work consistently finds that partners wait years after problems begin before they ask for help. Coming in while you still like each other is not premature. It is the easier version.
-
You can start on your own. Working individually on how you communicate, what you tolerate, and how you respond when things get heated changes the relationship even when only one person is in the room. Many partners who refused at first come in later. Call us and say that is your situation.
-
We are in-network with several major insurance panels. Lower-cost sessions are available with our associate and pre-licensed counselors.
-
Yes, for adults, anywhere in Texas.
