Shylecia Mimmitt, LMSW, LCDC-I
Specialties: I specialize in working with individuals aged 10 and up who are navigating challenges related to grief, anxiety, depression, addiction, and trauma. My passion lies in helping clients process complex emotions, develop healthy coping strategies, and move toward healing. Whether someone is dealing with the loss of a loved one, struggling with substance use, or facing the weight of depression or anxiety, I strive to create a safe, supportive environment where they can feel heard and understood.
Approaches: My therapeutic work is grounded in evidence-based practices tailored to each client’s unique needs. I primarily utilize Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) to help clients identify and challenge unhelpful thought patterns, Motivational Interviewing (MI) to support clients in finding their own motivation for change, and Solution-Focused Therapy to encourage goal setting and highlight individual strengths. These approaches allow me to meet clients where they are and empower them to take active steps toward growth and resilience.
Experience: As a Licensed Master Social Worker (LMSW) and Licensed Chemical Dependency Counselor Intern (LCDC-I), I bring two years of clinical experience working in both hospital and private practice settings. I’ve led group therapy sessions in a hospital environment and provided one-on-one talk therapy in private practice. This diverse experience has allowed me to work with a wide range of emotional and behavioral concerns and has strengthened my ability to build meaningful therapeutic relationships across different age groups and backgrounds.
